Childrens Health
In 2005, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its "Guidelines
for Carcinogen Risk Assessment." The EPA guidelines
indicated that children acquire 50% of their lifetime risks of developing
cancer during their first two years. Meanwhile, a study
conducted in 2001 proved that children who consumed organic
food were less exposed to organophosphorus pesticide compared to
children who took conventional diets.
In 2006, another similar, yet perhaps a more persuasive study compared
the organophosphorus pesticide vulnerability levels of 23 children
prior to taking an organic diet and after. The study found
out that the children's level of exposure to organophosphorus pesticide
fell significantly when they started to consume organic food.
This study and other similar researches have begun a trend in the
US to develop and market more organic food for babies. For their
part, parents have become more careful in choosing the diet they
give to their babies considering that they are vulnerable to toxins.
