Organic Food Quality

Organic farming operates on the principle: "Healthy soil equals healthy food equals healthy people." But claims that organic food is superior to conventional products in terms of nutritional value remain debatable. The supporters of organic farming say that the health-promoting and nutritional value of food depends on chemical-farming methods. These comprise areas like plant physiology, micronutrients and trade elements, the process of human nutrition and plant growth.

But critics argue that there is no evidence yet to prove the functional difference between organic products and non-organic ones. In fact, some say that some organic products fail to achieve the maximum quality and safety standards because organic farmers have limited methods in cultivating their crops. A UN study conducted in the UK reported that although organic dairy products had higher somatic cell counts compared with conventional ones, conventional dairy cows could be treated more often with antibiotics than the organic dairy.
